CUIDA questionnaire is designed to rate candidates for adoptive parents, guardians, foster-parents, and mediators. The questionnaire allows to assess personality variables, parenting styles, and a person's ability to provide care for a biological child, an adopted child, a child in a foster family or in child-care institution. It is also designed to measure an ability to take care of dependent persons such as the elderly, ill or disabled.
CUIDA includes 175 items which assess affective, cognitive and social variables related to the ability to create care relationships. Scores are caluclated in 14 basic scales: Altruism, Openness, Assertivenes, Self-evaluation, Problem-Solving Ability, Empathy, Emotional Stability, Independence, Flexibility, Reflectiveness, Sociability, Frustration Tolerance, Ability to Create Emotional Ties, Ability to Cope with Loss. CUIDA also includes an additional scale of Aggresivity as well as three second-order scales (Responsible Care, Emotional Care, and Sensitivity to Others) and three control scales (Social Approval, Inattentiveness, and Response Incoherence).

Adoption
Candidates for adoptive parents usually go through a long recruitment procedure a part of which is the assessment of their dispositions to be good nurturers or educators. Dispositions are not only appropriate personality features but also certain competences shown when coping with a child.
In the assessment of candidates for adoptive and foster parents the parallel use of two methods, CUIDA and TKR, shoud be advised. Together they can provide a better and more comprehensive picture of parenthood dispositions. The CUIDA enables to assess those of personality features which are important from the point view of a proper child-care, whereas the TKR provides information about parental competences, that is parents' knowledge and their beliefs about their own skills connected to children upbringing. The CUIDA scores can also be useful when those on the TKR are interpreted, esp. when they refer to parental errors. For example a high score on the TKR Overcare scale in a person who has low skills in coping with a loss assessed on the CUIDA – this proves his/her emotional dependence on others – can be interpreted as a symptom of worrying about the child and an inclination to control the child in order to keep him/her safe.

Reliability
CUIDA reliability evaluated by the internal coherence coeffiicients proves satisfactory for most of the scales – values 0,80 or higher confirm that the scales can be used in individual assessment. The scores stability is also high – correlations between test and retest scores for all scales are (with one exception) above 0,8.
Validity
There are significant correlations between scores of CUIDA scales and scales measuring parental attitudes (SPR), factor ACL scores which measure similar personality constructs and scales of BIP inventory assessing features important from the point of view of professional performance. These data confirm theoretical validity of CUIDA questionnaire. What increases its diagnostic validity is the fact that dysfunctional parents get lower scores in the scales than parents whose behaviour qua parents does not betray any abnormalities.
Norms
The sten norms were developped for both the general adult population aged 20–59 and for candidates for adoptive parents. The analyses conducted show that the former should be applied when the questionnaire is administered in the neutral environment (scientific research, development) and the latter when the questionnaire is used in the assessment context related to opinion-giving, selection or recruitment.
The test is also available as an online examination on the Epsilon Platform and as an option for entering and calculating scores from the paper-and-pencil version on the Epsilon Platform.
An electronic version of CUIDA in English is also available on the Epsilon platform. The choice of the language version (Polish or English) is made at the time of ordering the examination (after prior purchase of CUIDA examination units or the client's wallet). The aim of creating an English-language version of CUIDA is to enable Polish psychologists to study people who are not fluent in Polish, but live in Poland. Therefore, in this specific situation, the test scores should be compared with the scores of Polish citizens (the score should be referred to Polish norms). The test report is intended for a Polish-speaking psychologist, so it will be generated in Polish.
