The tasks require the child to name the stimuli, which consist of colors and pictures of known objects (in the M version), also numbers and letters (in the S version), as fast as possible. The M version consists of three parts (objects, colors, mixed objects and colors), and the S version – of five parts (objects, colors, numbers, letters, mixed letters, numbers & colors); in both versions each part includes 48 stimuli. The main indicator is the time of naming.

The test may be used in the psychological practice to prognosticate and diagnose school problems, especially with reading and writing. It also gives information useful when diagnosing impulsiveness characteristic to ADHD, and when measuring the mental capacity under time pressure. It may be also used in research of the basic speed of the information processing, and operational memory.
Additional advantages of the test are a simple procedure and short testing time.
Reliability
Satisfactory indices of the absolute stability.
Validity
Research confirms the validity of the TSN as a test to evaluate the degree of the automaticity in recalling lexical information and proves that it involves operational memory as well as the ability to process verbal material, and measures the general speed of information processing. In the M version there is a connection found between results and school outcomes, as well as differences in the test between ADHD children and the control group. The results of the S version are connected with the reading progress and differentiate between children with diagnosed dyslexia or its risk, and children without such disorders.
Norms
Standard ten for age of 5, 6 & 7 (TSN-M), and 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 (TSN-S).
