The test measures reflexivity-impulsivity understood as a dimension of cognitive style related to the control exercised by a person over the course of one's own cognitive activities. It is composed of 12 tasks consisting in searching for images identical to the simultaneously presented patterns. Registered are the time of reflection on the first answer in each task and the mistakes made by the examinee. Based on the average time and correctness of the response, the reflexivity-impulsivity index (R-I) is calculated.
In the current, second edition, the presentation of the theoretical foundations of the test has been updated and its psychometric characteristics enriched, the way the results are captured have been improved and guidelines for their interpretation reworked.
Materials:
- Kit (manual, test booklet, answer sheet with a key)

- Test booklet*
- Answer sheet (25 copies)
* The test booklet has not been changed compared to the previous version of the MFF.
The test will be useful as an auxiliary tool in the diagnosis of children's intellect, especially aimed at searching for the causes of school difficulties, as well as in scientific research on cognitive styles.
Reliability
For the reflexivity-impulsivity index, satisfactory coefficients of internal consistency (in most age groups 0.75–0.87) and stability (0.83) were found.
Validity
The theoretical validity of the test is evidenced by a negative correlation between the speed and correctness of the answer. The divergent validity of the test was also checked by correlating its scores with perceptual abilities, as well as comparing the scores of children from clinical samples and those from control groups; the results suggest that the MFF – as a test of cognitive style – is not a measure of ability, and the impulsivity diagnosed with it is not a pathological symptom. The observed correlations with school grades allow us to expect the predictive accuracy of the test in predicting school functioning and student achievement.
Norms
The test has s-ten norms for the reflexivity-impulsivity index, as well as for the basic indicators – the average response time and the correctness of the response. The standards were developed on the basis of a sample of 836 children aged 6–12 years.
