LBQ is a Polish adaptation of the Italian questionnaire created by Massimo Sentinello. It measures professional burnout in persons whose job consists in teaching or helping other people.
LBQ consists of 24 items describing a respondent's feelings about his/her job. The answers are given according to the 6-point scale where each point refers to frequency of those feelings. LBQ allows to measure 4 aspects of professional burnout: Psychophysical exhaustion (dimension reffering to the self-assessment of one's own psycophysical ressources), Deterioration of relations with clients (dimension referring to the quality of those relations), Job ineffectiveness (dimension referring to the self-assessment of one's own professional competences), Disappointment (dimension of existential expectations).
Materials:
- Kit (original handbook, Polish normalization, 25 sheets with a key)
- Original handbook
- Polish normalization
- Questionnaires (25 copies)
Research purposes; diagnosing groups, task teams, and organizations; change and intervention planning in the organization; assessement of organizations and their atmospheres.
Reliability
Satisfactory internal compatibility and score stability in all scales, except for the scale Feeling of professional ineffectiveness.
Validity
Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the LBQ structure in the Polish version is equivalent to the original version. Validity of LBQ is also evidenced by the confirmed relationships between burnout and work satisfaction, amount of stress, active ways of coping with it, feeling of external control and need for achievement. The research also showed specificities of burnout in various professional groups.
Norms
For five professional groups whose activities consist in helping others or teaching (teachers, therapists, nurses, physicians, policemen/firemen/prison guards). There are also norms for a comparison group whose members perform work which does not consist in helping others (accountants, engineers, and computer specialists).
The test is also available as an online examination on the Epsilon Platform and as an option for entering and calculating scores from the paper-and-pencil version on the Epsilon Platform.
