Polish adaptation of the PSI-4

We are glad to inform that the Polish adaptation of the PSI-4 Parenting Stress Index, Fourth Edition (originally authored by Richard R. Abidin) has already been released.

The PSI-4 is designed to measure the intensity of parental stress understood as a set of processes conducive to aversive psychological and physiological reactions and caused by the attempt to adapt to the requirements of parenthood.

The advantage of the tool is that the clear and coherent theoretical model on which it is based is solidly embedded in practice. This allows to assess parental stress in the context of the whole functioning family system and environment within which the family has its place as well as to define further assessment and to plan therapeutic intervention.

The inventory serves to examine parents of children aged 0–10. It is applicable for planning and evaluating family therapies, increasing parental competences through diagnosis of problematic areas as well as for developing preventive programs of early stage intervention. Recognizing high level of parental stress may also help to prevent a parent’s decision to discontinue his/her child’s therapy or his/her failure to obey medical recommendations.

The tool is designed for the use by psychologists and other specialists working with children and parents including educational counsellors, psychiatrists, peadiatric and psychiatric nurses.
