Description: A self-rating tool designed to measure features revealed in the relations with others. It consists of 64 adjectives and the respondent's task is to determine – using a scale of 1 through 8 – whether, and to what extent, a given adjective characterizes him/her in an adequate way. IAS includes 8 scales related to 8 dimensions set within a circular model which takes into account two wider dimensions of inter-personal transactions: domination and support. As a result a profile can be developed which shows characteritic features of the respondent in terms of dimensions such as: Self-confident – dominating, Arrogant – calculating, Cold – insensitive, Restrained – introvert, Hesitant – submissive, Non-presumptive – sincere, Friendly – compliant and Sociable – extrovert. In addition, it is possible to specify interpersonal type of the respondent as well as the intensity with which this type reveals itself.

Reliability: Internal consistency high or satisfactory – Cronbach's alpha between 0,77 and 0,9.

Validity: Validity of the Polish version seems to be well proved by the actual (and expected) correlations  between IAS scales and social competences, interpersonal relations, personality features as measured by NEO-PI-R and EPQ-R, stress coping styles, self-evaluation, achievement motivation and other personality variables. Factor validity of the tool also proved satisfactory.

Norms: Norms for ten-scores were developed on a sample of 4760 persons. Considering the observed differences due to age and gender separate tables of norms were created for the following groups: female students aged 18-28, male students aged 18-28, working women aged 18-30, working men aged 18-30, working women aged 31-40. working men aged 31-40, working women aged 41-70 and working men aged 41-70.

Application: IAS can be applied to diagnosis focusing on typical forms of interpersonal behaviour. The tool allows to specify dynamics of the relations which appear in various groups or teams, as well as in families. It also allows to diagnose eventual inter-personal problems and impending personality disorders.
